The first thing I noticed about this product is that the screws used to put the bookshelf together are immediately noticeable and detract from the overall look of the bookshelf. These screws are photoshopped out of the pictures shown on the site or the box. The self itself is also a little bit wobbly, probably because of the offset shelves (but is easily fixable with a couple of angle bracket additions).

Overall, it still looks great, the shelves are solid and it was a breeze to put together. I would recommend this bookshelf.

It seems to be a poorly planned piece, badly drilled and packaged with hardware not equal to the task of holding it together. It is the standard wooden peg and metal screws-type assembly favored by IKEA and Crate and Barrel. No problem, I've done those many times before. But when I tried to put the bottom pieces together, the hardware was swimming in the drilled holes. OK, so maybe I could start at the top-no, even though the holes were more reasonably sized, the pieces barely hold together even on the tightest setting. A stiff breeze would blow it over. I think the size differential is too much for wood glue or its like to overcome. Also, the staggered layout of the shelves make it a little tedious and involved to assemble.

I have assembled enough furniture over the years that I am confident that it is not my skills that are the problem. I will exchange, hopefully this is just a bad set. But I suspect it is an issue with the overall design and sturdiness of the hardware. Too bad, it really is a cute piece. But I have a large book collection and I need something that can actually bear its weight.

Shelves look great and are a nice accent in a contemporary room[...] really loved the design and the overall product quality. I spent an hour to assemble the shelves and another hour filling the screw-holes and finishing them [...]with a touch-up stain. I used Miniwax 'ebony' stain and putty and the holes disappeared.

    I love my bookshelf!! It's a true black and matches my contemporary themed living room! My favorite thing about it is how different it looks from the typical bookshelves. I would say it's my favorite piece of furniture just because it is so fun! I'm quickly filling it with books and might need to buy a second one.

    I use half of my new shelf for decoration and the other half to hold my books. I love the style, it isn't too large and gaudy which is what i was looking for in a bookshelf. It looks exactly how it looks in the photo which was great because there weren't any unexpected suprises. It really matches any of my other furniture and bed frame because it's true black. Really really love my new bookshelf.

    I like this bookcase, it looks great. The only drawbacks to this piece are that it's a bit smaller than I would have preferred and it's made of cheap, compressed fiberboard. Buy this piece if you value style over quality.
