This bookcase is sturdy and durable and looks nice in the espresso color. However, it arrived in extremely poor condition. Every single piece is scratched, has glue or sticky spots, or has light white spots on it that won't come off. Once put together and filled with stuff the flaws aren't noticeable unless looking up close. For the price I expected better quality. If it wasn't such a large bulky item I would have returned it.

We received this bookshelf in great time. It was easy to put together and looks great in our library. Plenty of room for all of our books and more.

I was pretty happy with the way it went together. Not a problem to assemble. All the parts were there. Wood seems of pretty good quality. The only cheap looking part of the bookcase is the back, a piece of cardboard folded into 4 sections. After screwing the back on ( many screws ) and then setting the bookcase up, I noticed the folds of the back were prominent. Although this will probably not make much difference when it is filled, I took my professional electric stapler and secured it better. I also bought and painted a 1/2"x 6" x 36" piece of clear pine, painted it espresso,and secured it to the top 6" of the back, as the ugly cardboard back showed over the top of the couch it backs up to. Overall, a very good buy.

I needed something narrower than the standard 12-inch depth for my new kitchen, and this seemed to fit the bill, at about 10.5 inches. It is sturdy, and will hold the weight of whatever books you use it for, but I actually would give this a 3-and-a-half star rating, because of the rough light edge that showed through on the top of the case once assembled. (I ended up filling it in with a marker, so you don't notice, and it looks fine). For the price, I think its a nice bookcase, but if you are looking for real quality furniture that will last a lifetime, this isn't it. It serves my needs, and looks fine, and the shelves will NOT sag.
